Deep Clean vs Recurring Clean: What Is the Difference?

These are not the same job at two intensities. They have different goals. A recurring clean maintains a state. A deep clean changes it. Booking the wrong one is the most common mistake people make when they hire a cleaner for the first time, and it is usually the cleaner's fault for not explaining it.

The short version

What a recurring clean covers

Everything you see and touch in a normal week. Kitchen surfaces, the outside of appliances, the sink and faucet. Bathrooms fully: toilet, tub or shower, sink, mirror, floor. Dusting of horizontal surfaces at reachable height. Floors vacuumed and washed. Beds made if you want them made. Trash out with a fresh liner. Window sills.

What it deliberately does not include is the reach work. Doing baseboards and inside the oven every two weeks would be pointless, and paying for it would be worse than pointless.

What a deep clean adds

The reach work, all at once.

• Inside the oven, and the door glass.
• Inside the refrigerator, and behind and underneath it.
• Baseboards wiped rather than dusted, which is a genuinely different job.
• Door frames, door tops, and the trim nobody touches.
• Window tracks and channels, not just the sills.
• Inside cabinets and drawers, and the tops of the upper cabinets.
• Light fixtures, ceiling fans, and vent covers.
• Grout, with dwell time, which is the part that cannot be rushed.
• Behind and under furniture that gets cleaned around the rest of the year.
• Range hood filter and bathroom exhaust fan covers.

Why the first visit is often a deep clean

If a house has not had a full clean in a while, a maintenance visit cannot get it to baseline. Grime that has had months to bond needs dwell time, and a cleaner working a maintenance list against a deep clean problem will either run long or leave things.

The honest way to handle it is to say so up front rather than quietly doing a rushed job and hoping. If your house needs one, we will tell you before the first visit rather than after.

That said, plenty of houses do not need it. If you have been keeping up, or the last cleaner left recently, going straight to recurring is the right call and we will say that too.

What about move in and move out cleans?

Third category, and the difference is the furniture. A move clean happens in an empty house, which means every surface is reachable at once: inside every cabinet, every closet floor, behind where the refrigerator was. That is why it is a separate price at $519 and why it cannot be done properly around a half packed house.

Which do you need

Go look at the top of a door frame in a room you do not think about, and look in a window track. If both are fine, book recurring. If either surprises you, start with a deep clean and go to recurring after.
